Welcome to my new group for women, ‘The Diva Club’. As a woman who has had to rebuild her own finances, I finally understand that it is my responsibility to plan my own financial future. It has been my experience that the best teachers have “walked the walk” and I bring that experience to my work. I started the DIVA Club to educate women about finances and financial options and to assist them in building a roadmap to achieve financial success. It’s a big challenge, because each of us is different. I want to help women de-bunk the myth that the “white knight in shining armor” will come to the rescue. It is easier to deal with life when you realize that Prince Charming comes in a Ford with car payments!

I started the DIVA Club to educate women about finances and financial options and to assist them in building a roadmap to achieve financial success. I hope you can join us!

I know at first blush – you may think – oh how boring – CPP (Canada Pension Plan)…. But for those of you that have never seen Marco Costa speak – you are in for a treat! He is quite animated and a wealth of knowledge. (Please read his comments below)

John Hanson from Sleeman Brewery will also be providing us an intermission with 3-4 different beers to sample – after all us girls have to have fun too!

I believe that it is important to know what lies ahead so you can prepare now for the future. By the year 2011, the first baby boomers – which is those born between 1947 and 1967 – will reach 65. Boomers will dominate and transform society, as they have at each stage of their lives. By 2011, the number of elder citizens will approach 7 million (in 2001 – there was 4 million). It will exceed 9 million – nearly one in four Canadians – by 2041.

Our life spans are increasing and, along with them, the options for how we will spend our later years. How we choose to live our lives is dependant on many things – our education; the kind of work we do; how much we earn; our personal experiences and beliefs; how we spend our leisure time; and our relationships with others – all our wants, needs, and desires. Together these factors create our quality of life.

What is your vision for the future? How do you perceive aging? How do you hope to spend your final years? Whether you are in your 30s, 40s, 50s or 60s, whether you feel well prepared or not, you need to plan strategically, now, to make your future all you want it to be!

Here are Marco’s words;

Many of our co-workers and colleagues are unfamiliar with their public pensions... Often, citizens of Canada fall prey to mis-information about CPP and Old Age Security. They hear the threat that their public pensions will not be there for them over the long run. We will share the findings of the most recent independent actuarial reports that indicate that CPP will be there well into the future…For those pensioners that are already retired; they may find that they’re not getting all of the benefits they may be entitled to. There may also be benefits for many clients under the age of 65, whom are unaware of their eligibility. These sessions are designed to inform them as well, and provide them with the information necessary to correct their benefit status.

The seminars we offer are extremely well embraced by the public who attend them. Many Canadians are not aware that maintaining the lifestyle they have enjoyed throughout their working lives, and carrying that lifestyle into their retirement years, is easier than they may have anticipated. They come away from our information sessions, clearly motivated, and armed with the necessary tools they need for a smooth transition into retirement.

Having learned that their public pensions will provide the average Canadian with about 40% of their pre-retirement income, participants leave inspired to work on a retirement plan. Participants leave with a renewed confidence that Canada’s Public Pensions will be there for them. They will also learn the criteria for receiving their Old Age Security Pensions and whether or not they qualify for Guaranteed Income Supplement.
